Chivona Renee Newsome (DOB: 12/31/84) is a BLM leader and the sister of notorious BLM leader Hawk Newsome. She co-founded the New York City chapter of BLM with her brother. The siblings appear to have received their radical streak from their mother who was a Black Panther associate. Newsome attended Howard University and then Fordham where she earned a bachelors degree. Newsome used to work as a financial adviser but apparently thought taking bribes as a New York politician would be more lucrative. She ran unsuccessfully for a Congressional seat in 2020 but came in 8th place in the Democratic primary with about 2% of the vote. According to her biography on Ballotpedia she has worked tirelessly leading protests and seeking justice for the families of police brutality, she works with members of LGBT community, victims of human trafficking, the mental health community, women's reproductive rights organizations, and housing justice advocates. In a sit-down with the mayor-elect in November 2021 she agitated the mayor by saying, "politicians shuck, jive and use rap quotes but don’t enact meaningful changes for people of color." She blamed the mayor's angry response on misogyny or ageism.
