Mac Laurel Sutherlin, aka Laurel Sutherlin, (born May '77) is a member of the Rainforest Action Network who was arrested at a 2021 pipeline protest in Minnesota where he locked himself to construction equipment. He was charged with theft. Sutherlin has the distinction of being one of the few people ever arrested on Mt. Everest. In 2007, he unfurled a "free Tibet" banner at the base camp and was detained by the Chinese. He was later arrested for climbing the Golden Gate bridge to unfurl a banner in 2008. Sutherlin was a long time San Francisco area resident but moved to a crappy house in Kingston in upstate New York in 2022.
