He's used aliases in the past such as "Irish Jay" and "Jay Firestone". While studying in NYC, he lived with Cindy Gorn who was also arrested at the 2015 Brooklyn Bridge protest. It's unknown if the arrangement was romantic or purely practical. As of 2019 he was working as an assistant professor of criminal justice (ironic much?) at Governors State University in University Park, IL. He has both a Masters and PhD degree in environmental psychology from the City University of New York which he believes is a prestigious institution, although no one else does. Shanahan was ideologically mentored by Stalinist Noel Ignatiev, who served as his co-editor for a publication called "Hard Crackers." In 2017 Shanahan successfully infiltrated the Proud Boys while posing as a working class Skinhead. He's also known as a doxxer.
