He's affiliated with the radical animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere (DxE). In 2019, he rushed the stage at a speech by then Senator Kamala Harris and grabbed her mic which was arguably doing Harris a favor. Cook was pushed off state by security. Some leftists criticized the action as racist because Harris is kind of black but Cook is white. Earlier, in 2016, he was with a group of activists who rushed Bernie Sanders on stage because Sanders supposedly took funding from agriculture companies.
