Mark A. Newman (DOB: 04/14/66) was active in the left-wing skins scene in Portland in the 1990s and was the founder and leader of the Portland SHARPS. In 1990, Newman and Tom Tegner assaulted two women who they believed were Nazis. The skins bashed one of the women's head with a roofing hammer, fracturing her skull. Police claimed Newman directed the attack. Newman plead guilty and served 16 months in the pen. He has numerous arrests in addition to the charges stemming from the assault on women. These include attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, attempt to commit a misdemeanor and public drunkenness. As a youth, he traveled around the country as a carnie and became radicalized while living on the streets of Philadelphia.
