She ran for Congress in 2018 on a platform of, "Medicare for all, racial and gender equality, a living wage, sensible gun control and environmental justice." She strongly opposed Trump Administration immigration policies and was quoted as saying, "I'm absolutely appalled by the Trump administration's changes to immigration policy.” She called the border wall "racist". Lewis lost to the Republican in a landslide.
