Notes

He participated in the violent counter-protest to the Unite the Right rally in 2017 with his wife, Rachel, and his mother-in-law. He claims to have been close by when a car rammed into the mob and said he took a woman to the hospital. He was quoted in an article as saying, "The events of August 11-12 were traumatic, but so were the months prior to them and many of the months after. We have been steadily harassed over the past year by KKK rallies, alt-right rallies, online threats, hate graffiti and vandalism." In 2018, he spotted an alt-right blogger in the UVA law library and tried to have him evicted. Schmelkin was a first-year law student at UVA at the time of the rally. He graduated in 2020 with a joint MBA-JD degree. Some sources have him living in Arlington, but he works for a Charlottesville law firm, so he probably lives in the Charlottesville area. https://archive.ph/7oStA https://web.archive.org/web/20221211192632/https://alex-haden.squarespace.com/?offset=1538666813886 https://www.linkedin.com/in/geoffrey-schmelkin
