First Name : Kristin
Last Name : Szakos
Kristin Layng Szakos was a Charlottesville City Council Member who participated in the violent counter-protest to the Unite the Right rally in 2017. Szakos said she wasn't in "the middle" of the rally but stayed on the fringes to "avoid inflaming tensions". She was credited by the local newspaper for being one of the fist people to question the historical Confederate monuments in the city. She later became one of the leaders of the anti-statue movement in Charlottesville. She attended several anti-monument rallies in Richmond prior to UTR.
Szakos trained to be a minister and then worked as a journalist prior to joining the city council. She claims to be the daughter of Mississippi civil rights workers.
