Notes

William "Billy" Talen, AKA Rev. Billy Talen, is a radical environmentalist performance artist who usually performs in the character of the Rev. Billy Talen. He's anti-capitalist and anti-consumerist and usually protests at large corporations. He runs the fake Church of Stop Shopping and is backed up at his performances by a choir. Talen was active in the Occupy movement of the early 2010s. In 2016, Talen was arrested for trespassing at the Monsanto World Food Prize award ceremony in Des Moines. He protested against Trump at Trump Tower in Manhattan in 2017. Talen wrote a handbook for environmental radicals that's available on Amazon. In total, he's been arrested more than 50 times, mostly for trespassing. He was busted in May 2020 for violation of an emergency order, probably because he was ignoring a COVID lockdown to protest. Talen has also had several state tax liens. Talen isn't an ordained minister but was inspired by a radical Episcopalian priest in Manhattan. He grew up in a Fundamentalist, Calvinist family in Minnesota so his politics are probably a reaction to his upbringing. Talen is married to fellow radical Savitri Durkee, who's been arrested with him many times. The couple lives in the NYC area, probably in Brooklyn. https://archive.ph/xOj6t https://archive.ph/kMcbT https://archive.ph/h3EyH https://archive.ph/2Zp3U https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverend_Billy_and_the_Church_of_Stop_Shopping
